Assignment 5

Chimpanzee identifies faces like human

Humans can perceive faces faster and in different ways than any other figures. Earlier this has been featured only as our own but by now has turned out that also chimpanzees can sight faces like humans do.

The matter became clear when Japanese Masaki Tomonaga and Tomoko Imura trained three chimpanzee females to look for example cars, bananas and faces among other pictures.
Chimpanzees spotted the faces of their own species quicker than the other pictures.

Face doesn't show backwards

For humans face recognizing bases on quick understanding of the big picture, and the same occurs for chimpanzees. Just like humans chimpanzees spotted faces notably bad when the picture was turned upside down. Also hiding the eyes, nose or mouth slowed the achievement.

Instead chancing the pictures black and white didn't disturbed recognizing of the faces.

Researchers were bothered that chimpanzees found bananas as fast as faces from the pictures.

Noticing of the fruit fast wasn't about the same kind of perceiving the big picture as in face recognition.

When the pictures were changed to black and white, it was almost as if the bananas had disappeared, . It was the yellow color of the treat what made recognizing it easier.

Human beats macaque

Surprisingly chimpanzees spotted human faces as easily as their own species.

The phenomena is hardly explained only as that the test animals have been on interaction by nurses. Recognizing Japaniesmacaques faces were hard for them although this monkey specie lives in cage beside them. Chimpanzees reacts to human baby faces even faster than macaque faces although they haven't met babies before.

Chimpanzees spotted faces better from straight ahead than pictures from the side, was it either human or their own specie. This summarize for that one matter of fact is the eye contact which lifts the knowledge of chimpanzee. Similar action has perceived for humans. "Results like this be worth when considering improvement of the social intelligence. Both of the species can benefit same way from facts that face is sending from social word." estimates Kioto from universities handcrafted studies institute working Tomonag in his research briefing.

Research was published by Scientific Reports.
